Modeling isn’t just for magazines and fashion shows!
When we talk about “modeling” in business or self-development, we are talking about finding those who already do – or have – the things you want to do or have and do what they do (or did)!
All over the Internet, you can find articles with titles like these:
- The Most Successful People Do These 5 Things a Day!
- The Happiest People Start Their Day with These 4 Things!
- CEO’s All Read These 10 Books
- And so on…
The reason is that duplicating success is as easy as well, duplication!
Just as there are recipes for cooking a dish, that when followed precisely, produce the same result, there are recipes for almost nearly anything in life!
For example, here are 5 things we can learn from the most successful people:
- They have a morning routine.
Starting each day, the same way, every day, is a good way to give the right beginning to each day as well. Otherwise, you will find yourself not being proactive – controlling your outcomes – but instead, merely reacting to whatever comes your way.
One is destiny-controlling, while the other falls victim to circumstance. The reason why the first option is desirable and the second is not, likely needs no further explanation.
- They don’t dismiss cliché’s
You might be thinking, “Huh? What does that have to do with anything?” The answer? “Everything.”
Do you know why clichés came to be? Because what they refer to happens so much, so often, that the results and outcomes are now predictable. If there is a cliché’ that applies to something, it’s likely worth considering because, well, it likely wouldn’t be a cliché’ if it wasn’t true—most of the time.
- They demonstrate grit
We talked about grit – and what grit is made of – in a previous post. Grit is a trait of almost all successful people.
Life is not always easy. Life is not always fair. People who keep going – and keep pushing – despite life’s “lemons” usually do so because of grit. When life challenges you, keep pushing – keep trying – and you will be steps ahead of most your competition.
- They clear the path…
“Clearing the path...” is very akin to #1 above. It references – or refers to – not only going through the motions and dealing with what comes your way each day (or month or year, etc.) but also anticipating the issues you might face and preparing for those issues. This way, you are not caught off-guard and thrown off track by the inevitabilities of “life.”
- They know they’re a reflection of the five people closest to them
There are so many sayings that reflect the above idea. There is, “Show me your five closest friends and I’ll predict your future.” Also the flip side, “When you lay down with dogs, you get fleas.”
No matter which direction you lean toward with the people you spend the most time with, the truth is they will dramatically influence many things about your life. Successful people hang out with other successful people. Who are you hanging out with most of the time? How is it impacting your life?
Of course, there are so many more of these! If you like this concept and lists such as the one above, based on Eric Barker’s “10 Things the Most Successful People Do Every Day,” here are a few more resources you can check out:
