Dr. Kerry White Brown, an esteemed Orthodontist with nearly 20 years’ experience, publishes a new blog post with ideas for occupying the kids while you’re working
Columbia, South Carolina — March 5, 2018 — Carolina Orthodontist Kerry White Brown recently published a new article, “Keeping Kids Busy While Mom Is Working – 6 Simple Ideas.”
As Dr. White Brown explains, “No matter whether you work from home for yourself or another company – or are just trying to get work done around the home – there are going to be times you have to figure out how to keep the kiddos occupied while you get things you need to do, done.”
On the other hand, she counters, keeping your kids entertained while you work from home can be challenging since kids aren’t born knowing how to entertain themselves.
To combat this dilemma, Dr. White Brown provides a few ideas for moms to keep kids busy while you’re working.
First, she suggests organizing playdates, since hosting a playdate can be a great way to occupy children so that you can do some work. Key to making this beneficial, is setting ground rules in advance. If kids are so young they need supervision, you can trade off playdates with another mom or even bring in an older sibling or hire a neighborhood babysitter.
Dr. White Brown also recommends creating or designing art projects to keep kids busy for hours. Many kids can set up and clean up on their own, but even if not, it’s not a lot of work for you to get things going and picked up later.
Other ideas she mentions are educational games – even apps – that can be done via the phone, tablet, or computer. She elaborates on this idea saying, “If you have a computer or tablet that your kids can use while you work, educational games are a great way to exercise their brain and enable them to have fun simultaneously. There are many websites and apps to explore different educational games. And while you don’t want to make your kids too tech-dependent, as long as they are using the device to learn, and this tactic is used in moderation, the benefits to you and your to-do list can be priceless.”
