Dr. Kerry White Brown, an esteemed Orthodontist with nearly 20 years’ experience, shares how lack of sleep is becoming an epidemic with new moms.
Columbia, South Carolina — July 07, 2017— Carolina Orthodontist Kerry Brown White recently published a new article, “Busy Moms and Sleep: Is Lack of Sleep Becoming An Epidemic?”
Dr. White Brown starts off the article by acknowledging, “You’ve got so much doing on in your life that sometimes those hours spent sleeping can seem easy to cheat or cut short in an attempt to “catch up.”
She adds that often we tell ourselves, ‘It’s just this once. After this time, I’ll get back on track.”
Yet, she says, it’s a vicious cycle because the next day is just as crazy and so we keep shortchanging our sleep over and over until we become sleep-deficient.
The result is that lack of sleep and sleep deprivation have become nearly an epidemic among moms.
From there, Dr. White Brown examines what you should do if you find yourself in this position. The first step, she says, is realizing – or acknowledging – that a problem exists.
Dr. White Brown also quotes some stats from a study published by CBS news. Among these are the results from a survey finding that women who have children at home are more likely to be sleep deprived than women without children. Interestingly, she adds, the same was not true of fathers with children at home.
Thus, she concludes, if you think you are sleep deprived, you likely are sleep deprived.
Dr. White Brown also explains some of the more serious consequences of long-term sleep deprivation. Such as, people who are short on sleep make more mistakes. Thus, they aren’t really saving themselves times by cutting into their sleep to do work or get tasks done, because of the extra time it takes to fix the mistakes they made while tired.
