A common method is to first make a list of negative experiences, or what you consider to be your negative qualities, and turn them into positives.

Write down what that made you think and feel and turn it into a positive. If you were upset and made to feel small, write that you are capable and strong and repeat that to yourself. This practice helps you see that negative experiences do not define you as a person.

Affirmations help you stay positive by keeping your thoughts and feelings moving in a positive direction.
