Braces Pain…Does it hurt?
When considering metal braces one of the first questions a patient might have is whether the process of having braces will hurt.
Common pain questions asked by patients inquiring or preparing for metal braces:
- Do braces hurt when they are being placed?
- Do braces hurt when being tightened?
- How long does braces hurt?
The initial placement of metal braces doesn’t hurt though there may be some soreness or what some patients have described as “uncomfortable”.
It isn’t uncommon to have some discomfort during braces tightening process. Throughout the year the arch wires must be pulled tighter as your teeth are going through the realignment process. The most soreness has been reported during this part of the process.
If there is some discomfort during or after the process this shouldn’t last more than a few days as you become more comfortable with braces or the adjustments.
